Project Brief:
Become familiar with representation and analysis techniques through study of an architectural project. Travel to Governer’s Island with intent to field study and capture mass information of scenes. Then represent this scene architecturally and conceptually.
Location:
Governer’s Island, NYC
Square Footage:
N/A
Precedent:
Nintendo Mario
Project Approach:
Challenge traditional types of architectural measure with conceptual representation. I chose to represent strengths by drawing techniques which translates into levels of difficulty inspired by Nintendo Mario.
The method of representing the strengths of the materials through line weights and hatching was similar to the difficulty of levels within the game. The purpose of this space was discovered, to hold a mystery box desirable enough to protect it from unwanted intruders. The elevation and isometric drawings were exploded in passing of Bullet Bill into different worlds of difficulty and strength. All of which would be in the path of reaching this box. This scene was conceptually developed into a portal kit of parts housed within an etched acrylic mystery box. These parts were assembled of 3-D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, then finished off with plaster wrap, gesso, acrylic paint, and various glues. This collection of hefty brick, stone, and solidiron bars along with its mystery of what wasbehind, led me to climb, jump, and contort my bodyduring the field study. This reminded me of achildhood video game. Mario.
